China’s official 2025 public holiday calendar was released on 12 November. The huge news is that the total amount of public holidays in China is being extended by two days from 2025, with one additional day off at Chinese New Year, and another during the May Labor Day holiday. This is a welcome development for the travel industry, as well as for Chinese workers.
Other important things to know:
Dragon Boat Festival is very early this year. Normally celebrated in mid- to late June, the festival falls on May 31 in 2025, so Chinese workers will return from their extended Labor Day holiday on May 6 and then start the next month with a three-day weekend.
Mid-Autumn Festival is late this year, falling after National Day for the first time since 2017. The National Day Golden Week will be an 8-day holiday this year to incorporate the Mid-Autumn Festival too.
